The Regional Disaster Information Center (CRID for its Spanish acronym) is an initiative sponsored by six organizations that decided to join efforts to ensure the compilation and dissemination of disaster-related information in Latin America and the Caribbean.

CIMH - Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology [ANG]

The Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) is a training and research organisation formed by the amalgamation of the Caribbean Meteorological Institute (CMI) and Caribbean Operational Hydrological Institute (COHI). The Caribbean Meteorological Institute was established in 1967 by the member states of the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) while the Caribbean Operational Hydrological Institute (COHI) was established in 1982.

CDEMA - Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency [ANG]

CDEMA (formerly known as CDERA) will fully embrace the principles and practice of Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) which is an integrated and proactive approach to disaster management. CDM seeks to reduce the risk and loss associated with natural and technological hazards and the effects of climate change to enhance regional sustainable development.

The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre - CCCCC [ANG]

he Centre will operate as a CARICOM agency with independent management and is envisioned to address climate change issues.

CARDIN - Caribbean Disaster Information Network [ANG]

CARDIN, in collaboration with its partners, seeks to provide a new and dynamic approach to accessing and disseminating disaster related information in a manner that adequately prepares and minimizes the effect of disasters in the Caribbean Region. This will be achieved through the collection, indexing and dissemination of disaster information to produce a comprehensive database which encompasses the English, French, Spanish and Dutch speaking Caribbean.

CEPREDENAC - Coordination Centre for the Prevention of Natural Disasters in Central America [ANG] [ESP]

CEPREDENAC is a coordination center for strengthening the capacity of the region as a whole to reduce the vulnerability of the population to the effects of these phenomena.

INSMET - Instituto Nacional de Meteorología, Cuba [ESP]

La Misión principal del Instituto de Meteorología es suministrar información meteorológica y climática autorizada, confiable y oportuna sobre el estado y comportamiento futuro de la atmósfera. Esta información está dirigida a velar por la seguridad de la vida humana y a reducir las pérdidas de bienes materiales ante desastres naturales de origen meteorológico, contribuyendo directamente al bienestar de la comunidad y al desarrollo sostenible.

ACS - AEC Asociación de Estados del Caribe

Les objectifs de l'AEC sont précisés dans la Convention et basés sur les aspects suivants : renforcement du processus régional de coopération et d'intégration afin de créer un espace économique élargi dans la région ; préservation de l'intégrité environnementale de la mer des Caraïbes qui est considérée le patrimoine commun des peuples de la région ; et promotion du développement durable de la Grande Caraïbe.

OECS - Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States [ANG]

PNUD - BCPR / Bureau de la Prévention des Crises et du Relèvement

Le Bureau de la prévention des crises et du relèvement (BCPR) œuvre dans le monde entier pour que les hommes, les femmes et les enfants affectés par une catastrophe naturelle ou un conflit violent retrouvent une bonne qualité de vie. Le Bureau s’appuie sur une cinquantaine de bureaux de pays du PNUD et constitue un pont entre les agences humanitaires qui s’occupent des besoins immédiats et la phase de développement à long terme qui suit le relèvement.

Les PEID sont confrontés à deux obstacles majeurs pour le développement – isolement et marchés restreints. Des problèmes courants résultant de leur environnement physique et entraînant un impact sur les ressources en eau, la gestion des zones côtières, la collecte des déchets sont autant de défi pour la majorité de ces pays. Mais en même temps, il est aussi reconnu que le développement de partenariats efficaces entre les pays membres aux niveaux local, régional et mondial s'avère le seul moyen pour les insulaires d'améliorer leurs conditions de vie tout en préservant l'environnement. Effectivement, SIDSnet, grâce à l'emploi de l'Internet et des TIC, en est un de ces moyens adéquats pour développer et faciliter des partenariats aux niveaux régional et global.

The Climate Institute [ANG]

The Climate Institute has been in a unique position to inform key decision-makers, heighten international awareness of climate change, and identify practical ways of achieving significant emissions reductions. This has been done through several different media including symposia, conferences, roundtables, and special briefings. These have been carried out not only in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe but also in as many as 30 developing countries providing expert advice at ministerial and heads of state briefings and at sessions with business executives and private citizens.

Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge

La Fédération mène des opérations de secours en faveur des victimes de catastrophes. Elle associe à ces opérations des activités de développement pour renforcer les capacités des Sociétés nationales. International Hurricane Research Center [ANG]

IHRC is Florida's official hurricane research center for ten universities that comprise the state system. IHRC is also designated as the formal liaison for NOAA's Tropical Prediction Center and National Hurricane Center, located on the Florida International University campus in Miami.

Centro Latino Americano de Medicina de Desastres [ESP]
